When it comes to our pets, we want to give them nothing but the best. One way to do this is by using green or natural pet products wherever possible.  Here are some green pet products currently available on the market.

Natural Pet Foods

One popular type of green pet product is natural pet foods.  These are pet foods that are made from as natural ingredients as possible and that do not contain the chemicals, additives and artificial flavourings that many standard pet foods do.  Natural pet foods are also free of fillers.  When you read the ingredients list of natural pet foods you will find quality, human grade ingredients are used not meat by-products or genetically modified foods.  Natural pet foods are available in both dry and wet forms and while they may be more expensive to buy, you’ll find that your pet will be eating less of them as they are of higher nutritional quality, and their waste will be less smelly.  You’ll also find that they’ll be less likely to suffer from allergies.

Natural Shampoos

Bathing your pet is a must do chore and while standard shampoos may smell nice, they are full of chemicals that can aggravate your pet’s skin.  A better, greener choice is to use natural pet shampoos and conditioners.  Natural pet shampoos tend to use cleaning agents that are sourced from nature rather than being made in a laboratory, and they are free of chemical preservatives and fragrances.  Common natural pet shampoos use ingredients such as oatmeal and coal tar and they do an effective job at cleaning your pet’s coat without stripping it of its natural oils.  Best of all, when you read the ingredients label, you won’t feel like you need a degree in chemistry to understand it!

Natural Pet Clothing and Toys

Natural pet clothing and toys simply refers to any coat, jacket, shirt, or toy that is made from natural fibres.  Pet clothing is made from materials such as cotton or wool, which are comfortable for the pet to wear and warm while still allowing the pet’s skin to breathe.  As an added bonus, natural fibre pet coats are easy to wash and care for.  Natural toys are made from green materials such as paper, cardboard, string, rubber, and cotton or wool cloth.  A huge range of toys can be made from natural materials and the good news is that they are completely recyclable when your pet has killed them from too much play!

Natural Pet Bedding

Every pet needs somewhere to sleep and it pays to choose natural pet bedding wherever possible.  This could be a pet bed made from cotton, wool or sheepskin, or it could be bedding made from recycled paper or sawdust.  The type of bedding of course depends on the type of pet you have!  Natural pet bedding can easily be washed or changed in order to remove odours and they are gentler and kinder to your pet’s skin, not to mention the fact that they help your pet to regulate their temperature more effectively!

Natural Kitty Litter

Last but not least, there is a range of natural, green kitty litters to choose from.  These include recycled paper, wood shavings, and pellets.  They are great at absorbing urine and they are so green, you can even put them on your compost heap to break down and provide fertiliser for your garden.
