A day in the life of a cat

Cats are fascinating creatures. It’s no wonder they are such popular pets all around the world. Whether you already own one, or are thinking about bringing a cat into your life, here are few must-knows about how they typically spend their day.

Sleeping

Cats sleep up to eighteen hours a day, that’s a lot of snooze time. Sleep helps cats to repair and grow, in the same way humans need sleep to recharge. Cats are renowned for sleeping in all sorts of places. You may find your puss in a box, in a cupboard, or high on a shelf! Cats sleep where they feel comfortable and safe. Their choice of where to nap may seem strange to us, but it’s perfectly normal to them.

Eating

Cats are meat eaters. They typically eat a range of meats such as chicken, beef and fish. You can give cats grass (that is of course not chemically treated or toxic) which may be a source of micronutrients. A cat’s diet can change depending on their age and size. If you’re unsure what to feed them, check with a vet.

Meowing

Cats communicate via meowing. It can take a bit of time to learn what your cat’s meows mean, but you will soon learn that have some to ‘say’ when they meow. They may meow when excited, hungry, want to go outside, want water, or if there is something wrong. Pay attention to your cat when they are meowing, it’s their way of communicating with you.

Cuddling

There can be a misconception that cats are not friendly. However, many cat owners will tell you the opposite is true. Cats can be incredibly loving and affectionate pets. They usually enjoy receiving attention and affection. However, if your cat is being a sour puss and not letting you pat them, be patient. Over time they will build trust and start to relax. A great way to encourage your cat to relax is to play games. Use toys such as ball or squishy soft toy.

Cats can make wonderful pets and companions. Like all pets, they need to be cared for
