They may sound like the sort of thing you would see in a science fiction movie but robotic pets are becoming more commonplace, especially as technology improves.
There are various robotic pets already on the market. Some look how you would expect a robot to look like, made of metal and with flashing lights. Others are more realistic. They can range in prices from $50 to well over $1000.
There are many reasons why people buy robotic pets but here are the main ones:
- Low-maintenance care - Robotic pets don’t require feeding, cleaning and other attention like walking. This makes them an easy to manage pet.
- Companionship – robotic pets can be good company offering entertainment and interaction.
- To see what it’s like to own a pet. A benefit of a robotic pet is that they can give someone an indication of what owning a real pet would be like. This can be particularly useful for children. They can be a great educational tool for someone thinking about bringing a pet into their life, but is unsure if they can manage the responsibility.
- To interact with an actual pet. Some people purchase robotic pets to be a companion for an actual pet. This can work well. There is no way of knowing if your pet is going to take to a robotic pet until you try it. They may find the robot pet fun and a source or play, conversely they could be frightened of it or become territorial. Monitor their interaction and see how your pet responds. Always keep put your pet’s wellbeing first.Do you think you would ever try out a robotic pet? They are not for everyone and of course technology can never replicate the bond and love that we receive from our real pets. However, for the right person they can be great.
