Take Your Dog to Work Day 2017
June 23 is International Take Your Dog to Work Day. Are you going to bring your pooch into your office? It can be a great opportunity to show your work colleagues a bit more about you and your world, and show off your pooch of course.
A few considerations:
In theory, taking your pup into work to keep you company sounds great, right? However, it’s only going to work if your dog is an indoor dog. Outdoor dogs who are suddenly brought into a new environment, will most likely struggle. If your job is outdoors, allows for dogs, and is safe for all, then your outdoor dog might be happy with this. Otherwise, be sure your dog will be comfortable spending the day inside your office.
Other dogs in the office
Remember that you will most likely not be the only one taking your dog into work. If you know your pet does not interact well with other dogs, it may be best not to take part. Dogs that have been to dog parks for example and are used to socialising should be fine.
Bring your own supplies
Do not expect your employer to supply any of your pet’s needs. It will be up to you to bring their food, toys, water bowl, lead and any other supplies they require. On that, know that you will be responsible for your dog on the day. If they make a mess, you will need to clean it up. If they are being disruptive, it will be up to you to manage the situation.
Plan the day
For a successful day, plan ahead. If you think your pet may only last part of the day at your workplace, have someone pick them up when it’s time. Be sure to schedule in walk and outdoor time as well.
Take Your Dog to Work Day is a fun event! It can be a really enjoyable day if there is little planning beforehand. Your workplace should be able to provide you with any information or answer any questions.
