Cleaning & Sanitising

If you’re a pet owner, you’ll know that no matter how careful you are or how good your pets are, you will get the inevitable build up of pet hair, some pet odours, and the occasional accident in your home. You can clean these up yourself but for the best result, you can hire a cleaner that specialises in cleaning homes that have pets inside.

What is Cleaning and Sanitising?

Cleaning and sanitising is basically a service provided by domestic cleaners and it is great for people that own pets as it is a deeper clean that is designed to remove odours, pet hairs and other things that just seem to come with your pets when they live inside or spend time inside your home.  It is a specialised service so you should make sure that the cleaner or cleaning company that you are considering using provides it.

Options in Cleaning and Sanitising

There are two main options when it comes to cleaning and sanitising your home when you own pets.  The first is an intensive clean which is generally required when your pets are shedding or if your home has not been cleaned for some time. This is a deep clean that is designed to remove all traces of pet hair, odours and the like from the home. Things done could include washing the curtains, deep cleaning the carpets, removing pet stains (urine or otherwise), cleaning walls, and so on.

You can also ask the cleaner or cleaning company to perform regular cleanings. These are usually carried out weekly or fortnightly as you require and include things such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and anything else required to keep the home clean and free of pet odours and hair.

Sanitising the home involves the use of disinfectants, odour neutralisers, and deodorisers to keep the place free of any diseases or germs and also to keep it smelling fresh and sweet.  There’ll be no risk of unpleasant pet smells!

As they will be cleaning a home that has pets inside, the cleaners will use pet friendly, non toxic products to carry out cleaning and sanitising as pets are notorious for getting into things they shouldn’t, licking surfaces and so on.  This way, you know that the home is clean but without the use of potentially toxic chemicals.

How to Choose Cleaning and Sanitising Services

If you are having a cleaner come around to clean and sanitise your home, the first thing that you need to do is to check that they are registered with the police and that they are fully insured. This will give you peace of mind that they are trustworthy and that they are covered in the case of something going wrong (accidentally breaking an item or something).  These cleaners are obviously pet friendly so you shouldn’t have to worry about allergies or anything, but you should check with the cleaner or the company if they are fine with the animal roaming around the home/backyard or if they prefer the animal to be contained in some way (on a lead, in an enclosure, in a small room etc).

Don’t forget to ask the cleaners what they charge for their services and what exactly is included. You may find that some companies include things as part of their standard price that other companies don’t so ensure that the quotes that you get are covering the same things.  Cleaning and sanitising services may cost more especially for initial cleanings as the process of removing pet hair is difficult and time consuming.
