Pet Promise Day - September 16
On September 16, people all over Australia will be acknowledging Pet Promise Day. Sadly, many pets are surrendered and even euthanised. This is because unfortunately not everyone understands the responsibility that comes with pet ownership. Pet Promise Day is about education and awareness.
What does it mean to own a pet?
Owning a pet is a long-term commitment. Puppies, kittens and young animals grow up. They require care, feeding and often grooming. Animals can’t be left along to fend for themselves. They rely on their owners to provide them with a safe and happy life
Not everyone realises the work and dedication required. Pet Promise Day is about raising awareness to ensure people considering owning a pet, can indeed care for their pet.
Choosing the right pet
Sometimes people have an idea of the pet they want to own. Only, they soon relaise that the pet they chose doesn’t suit their lifestyle, budget or even personality. Taking the time to research different types of pets – before you commit – can make the world of difference. Talk to other pet owners, a vet and research online. Be sure you are choosing the right pet for you
Spreading the word
Pet Promise Day is about getting the message out there. It’s about ensuring people understand the responsibility of pet ownership. If people go into pet ownership with realistic expectations and a clear understanding of what is involved, there is far less chance they will surrender their pet. If you know someone considering owning a pet, have a frank and open discussion about what’s involved.
We are so lucky to have animals in our life. They bring many of us joy and happiness. Let’s make a promise to do the best we can for all pets by ensuring they each go to loving and safe homes. Get behind Pet Promise Day and make a difference.
