There are many other reasons why dog owners choose CDTS over other trainers. As a dog owner if you are looking for a program that is structured, provides clear learning outcomes at each session and small learning groups (class limits a maximum of 8 for our outdoor venues and 6 for our indoor venues) our school is suited to your needs. Training in small groups ensures all participants receive personalised attention and assistance with their dogs and dog problems. Furthermore, unlike other schools or clubs, each class has a dedicated instructor who remains with the group from start to finish. The school is so confident with its service it guarantees* all its programs.

About Us

A brief history of the inception of one of Melbourne's largest professional dog training schools.

Command Dog Training School (CDTS) is one of the largest andmost respected professional dog training companies in Melbourne. It is often recommended as the school of choice by veterinarians, local councils, pet shops and other pet industry businesses.

They say that the best asset a company can have is its staff. This rings very true at CDTS. Our Instructors are ardent in their work which is reflected in the high standards achieved by dog owners and of course, their dogs. The school’s instructors are qualified and nationally accredited by Australia’s leading industry bodies, AAPDT (Australian Association of Professional Dog Trainers Inc) and DTA (Dog Trainers Australia).

Unlike many so-called dog trainers of today who claim they are behaviourists after doing a short course in dog training, CDTS Instructors are all experienced hands-on trainers who have been selected by Basil Theofanides to join the school as Instructors. Furthermore, they have a minimum of 5 years in the industry and have trained their own dogs to Advanced and Competition levels. This criterion underpins the quality of training our customers receive. As a customer you can be assured of a qualified industry expert teaching you to understand and train your four legged pal.

As a professional dog training educator CDTS understands the importance of improvement. Consequently, it is continually upgrading its instructor skills by holding regular workshops facilitated by Nationally Accredited Trainer Basil Theofanides and through attendance of industry seminars such as Both Ends of the Leash with Dr Patricia McConnell and Foundation Course in Canine Communication with Jan Fennell (aka The Dog Listener). Additionally, its management systems are audited by DTA, ensuring industry best practices are adhered to.

Kindergarten Puppy Training

His course is highly recommended by veterinarians, breeders and pet shop owners.

AIMS

To teach new puppy owners through the school's unique "Training On Natural Lines" program, correct procedures in the handling, training, correcting , rearing and socialisation of young puppies from 8 weeks - 18 weeks of age thus avoiding problem behaviour in the future.

Because young puppies develop rapidly between 8 & 18 weeks of age (critical periods of development), their temperament must be formed carefully and good behaviour patterns established properly during this time. Otherwise you as a puppy owner are running the risk of creating a pup that could be nervous, out of control, destructive and a nuisance to everyone.

If you value your pup's well being, and want it to be well adjusted and a happy member of the family, enrol your puppy in KPT now!

CLASSES, PRIVATE LESSONS or HOME TRAINING INCL GST
All enrolments will receive a FREE can of Nature's Gift dog food!

Course content covers everything from understanding puppy behaviour, effective communication to learning how to correct typical puppy problems you may be experiencing around the home such as biting, chewing, jumping, nuisance barking and toilet training.

In this course your individual needs and problems are dealt with and basic exercises are taught using positive reinforcement techniques. Furthermore you are taught correct procedures in conditioning & socialisation of young puppies and how to interact them, under control.

Puppies are also taken over a basic obstacle course to build confidence in different situations. Puppies learn to climb over various surfaces, obstacles and in some cases up & down different types of stairs. Going through tunnels and over small jumps is as much fun for the owner as is the puppy.

Home Training Service

We come to you!

This service is designed for people who live busy lifestyles and therefore do not have the time to travel to a training centre or prefer a more personalised service.

If you are experiencing behavioural problems with your dog such as jumping, biting, pulling clothes off the line and barking, then a visit from one of our instructors may be all thats required to bring your dog into line. Whatever training you require, we will tailor it to your needs.
