Oriental Longhair Cat Breeders
If you are looking for a cat that is not only beautiful but will become a part of your life in every possible way, the Oriental Longhair is the perfect companion for you. Here’s what you need to know.
Characteristics of the Oriental Longhair
The Oriental Longhair is a medium sized cat with a slender, muscular body, and fine boning. The head is angular and wedge shaped, and they have green, almond shaped eyes and large flaring ears. The coat is semi long to long in length and it has an incredibly fine texture, so it feels like silk. They are available in the same colours as the Oriental Shorthair is which means that they are available in over 300 colours and patterns such as black blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, tortoiseshell, tabby, and so on. They do not come in the pointed pattern however.
The Oriental Longhair Temperament
The Oriental Longhair is a very talkative breed of cat, loving to use their voice to communicate with their owners. They are also a very active cat, loving to play and to jump on things so they will need a scratching post or cat tree as well as plenty of toys. The Oriental Longhair is very intelligent and will easily pick things up. They are also incredibly human oriented and will demand plenty of love and attention from their owners. It is not at all unusual for an Oriental Longhair to follow their owners around and try to get involved with whatever you are doing.
Caring for an Oriental Longhair
Grooming an Oriental Longhair is surprisingly easy and all you will have to do is to regularly brush or comb the coat in order to remove the dead hairs and to create a delicious lustre on the coat. These cats are quite healthy but may suffer from gingivitis, amyloidosis and cardiomyopathy. You can reduce the risk of this occurring in your cat by buying it from a registered breeder. As well, you can feed chicken necks and wings to reduce the likelihood of dental problems.
Who is the Oriental Longhair Suited To?
The Oriental Longhair is suited to owners or families that are looking for an active cat that will become a much entwined part of their lives. They are not at all suited to people that are looking for docile and quiet lap cats. If you need to be away for long periods of time, you should get your Oriental Longhair a cat companion as they do not do well on their own.
