Smooth Coat Chihuahua Breeders

If you are looking for a tiny dog that is feisty yet will be your best friend, the Chihuahua (smooth coat) is the dog for you. Read on for more.

Characteristics of the Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

The Chihuahua is the world’s smallest breed of dog, standing at a mere 15 to 20cm high and weighing no more than 3kg. They are very lightly built and have a large, rounded head, large dark eyes, and large perky ears. They have a quirky yet lovable look. The Chihuahua (smooth coat) is a short coated dog whose coat lies close to the body. The coat comes in different colours including cream, white, sable, sand, blue and black.

The Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) Temperament

The Chihuahua (smooth coat) is an excellent companion pet as it genuinely enjoys human company. It also gets along well with other animals but you may find that you need to supervise it with larger pets, just to make sure that everything is ok. Also, despite their small stature, you will find that it has a surprisingly loud bark, and it can be yappy sometimes. The Chihuahua (smooth coat) can be trained but be aware that it can be a longer process than with other breeds. Common words used to describe the Chihuahua (smooth coat) include cunning, protective, feisty, and clever.

Caring for a Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

The Chihuahua (smooth coat) is very low maintenance grooming wise due its short coat and the amount of care that it requires depends on how often they are outside. You should need nothing more than the occasional bath and brushing. Even though they are a tiny breed, they do still require regular exercise to keep them healthy and to stop them from becoming overweight. You do need to be careful of your dog’s eyes as their prominence means that they can be prone to injuries or infections. It is also a good idea to give your dog raw chicken bones regularly as the Chihuahua’s teeth can be prone to tartar build up. On average, the Chihuahua (smooth coat) will live for 12 years but they can live for 15 years or more if they are fed a good diet.

Who is the Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) Suited To?

Because of their diminutive size, the Chihuahua (smooth coat) is suited to all living situations, even the smallest of apartments. They are a real house dog and are more than happy to be inside with you all day but you do need to remember to take them out for regular exercise. The Chihuahua (smooth coat) is not recommended for families with young children as the dog may find the kids too boisterous but they are suited to just about everyone else, especially older companions.
